TYPES OF GRANTS

The Butler Bulldogs Education Association offers four types of grants: 1) Classroom Grants, 2) Major Academic Initiative Grants, 3) Leadership Grants and 4) Emotional Health Grants.

1. Classroom Grants – Grant applications from Teachers and Principals that enhance and enrich innovative and creative learning experiences and opportunities for the students of Butler’s schools. These initiatives are for forward looking classroom, grade level, or subject wide 21st century learning initiatives that enhances the curriculum. There are three types of grants for teachers.

  1. A one-time grant for a project that will happen once and end.
  2. A seed grant to start a project which could possibly continue.
  3. An expansion grant to build upon a previous grant that has expanded in scope.

2. Major Academic Initiative Grants – Grants for major academic initiatives with broad reach and scope that elevates the district. Grant applications for major academic initiatives typically will be submitted by the Superintendent, Board of Education, or Principals. These grants are tied to curriculum and are designed to positively impact a grade level district wide, a school or a whole district. Rarely, if ever, would this be for a single classroom program. Examples – Chromebooks, Makerspace materials and equipment, 3D Printers…

3. Leadership Grants – Leadership grants includes capital spending for physical improvement projects that will enhance the education of Butler students. Examples are capital projects like a Makerspace or Classroom of the Future but not capital spending for things like roofs or boilers. Leadership grants also include educational programs in partnership with the community that are educational in nature and bring the community together to learn. Examples are programs with the public library, a speaker series or alumni speakers.

4. Emotional Health Grants – Emotional health grants are for the improvement, enhancement and continuity of increased emotional, mental and physical health for all students which would enable students to participate in creative learning experiences and opportunities as outlined in the BBEA Vision. In this category, School Nurses, Guidance Counselors, School Psychologists, Student Assistance Counselors, Resource Room/Self-Contained Teachers Anti-Bullying Specialists, other members of the Child Study Team, and Athletic Trainers can apply for grants that will support the physical, mental and emotional growth of the student population. Examples of Grants could include new materials such as classroom supplies, books, computer/tablet programs and other adaptive equipment for working with developmentally delayed, classified, and/or medically fragile students.
